Beginning a story before it is lost
A short reflective opening in which the narrator acknowledges every story ends and resolves to start writing immediately—recording past, present, and anticipated events—before the memories slip away.
This story will end. I don’t know when or how—whether it builds to something worth the effort or just stops, mid-sentence, with no one watching. That much it shares with everything else.
I can start it here, with these words. There is a lot to get down—what happened, what’s happening, what I think is coming—and the only way to keep pace is to begin before I’m ready. Stories don’t wait. I have to tell mine before I lose them.
